Recycling Services, Education & Community Programs

The City of Russellville is expanding recycling access and education through a comprehensive Recycling Education & Programs initiative focused on reducing contamination, increasing participation, and providing residents with clear, practical recycling options.

In response to ongoing recycling challenges within the city and county, the City is launching a community-wide Recycling Education Campaign designed to increase public awareness of what CAN AND CANNOT be recycled. Even just a few bags of trash placed in a recycling bin can contaminate an entire load, resulting in otherwise recyclable materials being sent to the landfill. We have determined that running an "Education Campaign" is a critical step in improving recycling success and reducing unnecessary waste.

This "Education Campaign" will officially launch at the City’s 1st Annual Earth Day Event on April 25, where residents can learn more about proper recycling practices, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives happening across Russellville. This Earth Day event will happen at James School Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

As part of this effort, the City is also working to establish a recycling drop-off location at 1801 S. Knoxville, which will provide expanded recycling access for the community. The planned drop-off site will allow residents to recycle:

  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Glass

In addition, the City plans to host bi-annual e-waste recycling events, providing safe and responsible disposal options for electronics that cannot be placed in regular recycling streams.

As the program continues to grow, the City will offer educational materials, community presentations, and speakers for schools, neighborhoods, and local organizations. These resources will support residents and businesses in reducing landfill waste, lowering contamination rates, and adopting better recycling practices that benefit both the environment and the community.
