2026 Civil Service Examinations for:
ENTRY-LEVEL FIREFIGHTER

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be 18 years of age on date of test. Applicants must not have reached their thirty-fifth (35) birthday on the closing day of application submittal. Applicants who have at least two (2) years of previous experience as a career/full-time Firefighter with another fire department and whose years of experience when subtracted from the candidate’s age leaves a remainder of not more than thirty-two (32) years are acceptable.
Applicant must not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language and possess a minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Development Test.
Applicant must be able to prove legal eligibility to work within the United States of America and work in this position within the State of Arkansas.

Job Title: Permit Technician
Department: Fire, Building & Safety
Reports To: Fire Marshal / Building Official

Annual Salary: $36,514

Position Summary:
The City is seeking a detail-oriented Permit Technician to process building and business permit applications. This role supports the Fire, Building & Safety Division by ensuring permits comply with federal, state, and local regulations and zoning codes. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Marshal/Building Official.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist customers in person, by phone, and email regarding permit applications and processes.
Review, process, upload, and track permits using EnerGov software.
Schedule inspections and maintain accurate files, reports, and records.
Prepare correspondence, memoranda, and official City documents.
Help resolve customer questions or issues and provide guidance on permit procedures.
Assist with departmental procurement and record management.

Qualifications:

Associate degree in business, accounting, or related field plus 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to obtain Certified Permit Technician certification from ICC within 2 years.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, and office equipment.
Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
